Bowie Business Innovation Center Celebrates 8(a) Accelerator Inaugural Cohort

Sixteen 8(a) Businesses Complete America’s First 8(a) Accelerator Program

The Bowie Business Innovation Center (Bowie BIC) celebrated the inaugural cohort of government contractors who successfully completed its 8(a) Accelerator program at its 8(a) Connections event on June 13th in Bowie, MD.

Sixteen 8(a) businesses in Prince George’s County successfully completed the Bowie BIC 8(a) Accelerator seven-week program. These businesses already have reported contract wins of nearly $1 million, new teaming agreements and new mentoring relationships. The 8(a) Accelerator focused on helping them develop their capture strategy to win new government contracting business using their 8(a) certification. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) 8(a) program is a business development program for socially and economically disadvantaged businesses who want to win government contracts. The 8(a) Accelerator was sponsored by Capital One in collaboration with SBA.

“This has been a great program for us…This gave us a lot of the ins and outs that we needed to know, probably from the beginning when we first entered into the 8(a) program…understanding how we are going to do capture management, having an idea of the tools we should use to get a pipeline, having some back-office systems and having an opportunity to meet other 8(a)’s…It has given me a better idea of how much work I have to do as CEO to achieve our 8(a) goals.”
